Christian Positive Thinking
The Bible is constantly telling us how to think and what to think on because it is for our benefit to be thinking upon good things. Thinking upon the right things leads us to right living. Thinking about positive things leads us into living a positive life. Thinking about good things attracts good things into our life and the opposite of course is also true. This is great news for you if you are currently in a state of unhappiness because all you have to do is change your thinking to Biblical thinking to start seeing happiness in your life.
The following scripture clearly tells us where our focus should be.
Colossians 3:1-2
If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
The word seek in the concordance means:
To seek in order to find out by - thinking, meditating, reasoning or enquiring into.
It can also mean to crave and desire.
We can have a much better life if we are thinking about the better things and all good things come from above. What are you thinking about most of the time? Are you thinking about the things above or worldly things? What are you meditating on most of the time? Meditating (thinking, dwelling on) good things or bad things? When you are searching for answers where are you searching? If you are struggling with things in life there is a great hope for you. Just change your thinking. Change where you are searching and looking for answers from. You can have a better now and a better future.
Set your affection encompasses not just the thinking but your feelings as well. Your cravings and your desire should be on things above. Your opinions, your wisdom, your modesty and your perceptions should all be based on things from above.
Colossians 3:3
For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
Sometimes we find it hard to grasp how our life is hid in Christ because after all we can still see ourselves as we are.
The parable of the army tank
A soldier is a very impressive site in his army uniform and is a potent fighting force having been trained in fighting techniques and on top of that usually carries a weapon that can also kill the enemy.
However he is nothing compared to a soldier inside an army tank. The soldier inside the tank can crush through buildings, drive over obstacles and has the power to pretty much obliterate anything in his path.
A soldier outside the tank can be shot at and can be wounded but a soldier inside the tank can be shot at and not be hurt. A soldier outside the tank can be recognized but the soldier inside the tank can not be seen.
His life is hid in the tank. To the outside world all they see is the tank, they don't see the soldier. Yet the soldier still sees himself, he still has his own thinking, he stills has his own doubts and insecurities, he can still see his own faults.
When you come to Christ your life is hid in him. You still see yourself and identify all of your weaknesses. But the outside world do not see you any more. You are not the same person any more, they don't recognize you any more. Where is the guy who used to drink? Where is the guy who used to do all of those worldly things? They don't see him anymore, sure you look the same but to your former acquaintances you are gone and they can only see someone different. They only see Christ - the awesome power of the tank.
My point is this is how you can see that your life is hid in Christ but you are still also you and as a result you need to take responsibility for your thinking.
